Welcome to The Cobb School, Montessori. Our blog is one of many ways we strive to put Montessori on the map. We hope you'll enjoy reading all things Montessori and jump aboard the movement to change the way many people look at children, education, and the world.
About us: The Cobb School, Montessori, founded in 1974 and located on five picturesque acres in Simsbury, educates children 15 months through sixth grade. Cobb’s mission, “Believe, Guide, Step Aside, Let Fly,” and core values—Respect, Responsibility, Independence, and Integrity—are felt in every element of the school. In this peaceful and diverse community, the values of hard work and self-discipline are matched by true joy and delight in learning.
Cobb is the only school in Connecticut’s Farmington Valley accredited by The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), providing an authentic Montessori education acknowledged throughout the world. We are committed to preparing the best environment for children, supporting parents, building community, and teaching respect for self, for others, and for the earth.
Cobb’s approach to education is based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the world’s most respected educators. In our Young Children’s Community, toddlers interact in a beautiful space specially prepared to meet their needs. Motor coordination, independence, and language are cultivated in this nurturing environment. The Primary classroom is an atmosphere of calm, order, and happiness, as children ages 3-6 learn together, working at a task from beginning to end and developing their self-discipline and capacity for concentration. Cobb’s Elementary program encourages children to wonder, work, and explore. The schedule allows for sufficient work time and in-depth study. Students often work in small groups on a variety of projects, building skills, and achieving the mastery and confidence they will one day need as productive and contributing citizens. Courtesy, grace, compassion, and kindness are taught at every turn, from the toddler’s first exciting days to the graduating sixth years’ beautiful Recognition Ceremony.
We invite you to explore all The Cobb School, Montessori can offer your child, and we encourage you to learn all you can about Montessori. All of us at The Cobb School are working hard to make the world a better place, one child at a time.
Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world. ~Dr. Maria Montessori
